Alexander & Susan Maris: The Well At The World's End
Sat 17 Aug - Fri 25 Oct 2019
An Tobar Gallery
Opening Night Saturday 17 August, from 6-8pm. Everyone welcome. Alexander Maris will be giving a talk about the project and exhibition at 6.30pm
For more than twenty years, artists Alexander and Susan Maris have collaborated to make artworks that reflect the culture and places of Scotland. As research for this exhibition, in 2018 Alexander walked from Schiehallion to the Isle of Iona, setting out to investigate ancient routes of travel, the ‘Road of the Kings’ and the codes, languages and landscapes of our forebears.
The artists have developed a new series of artworks comprising photographs, tapestries, texts, drawings, Oghams, and the water of sacred wells which explore the symbolism, historic landscape and origins of Scotland’s culture. The Well at the World’s End is based on a project commissioned by Cultural Documents as part of their Locating Lorne programme.
